    Abstract

Change in agricultural practices in last 50 years become main source for environmental damage and break the natural balance by their effect on water and soil quality. Hatay region is an important agricultural land in Turkey. Amik basin is recruited to agricultural by drying the Amik Lake which extent approximently 60 km2 field. Carp, Eel, Catfish, Siraz Silver fish are the main fish species product in the region. Freshwater source of Hatay region (Natural lake 370 ha, Dam lake 430 ha, Small dam lake 10, Rivers 844 ha) covers total of 1654 ha. 380-km long Asi River passes trough Syria enters Hatay before merge in to Mediterranean.
Hatay region as fertile soil and 97,2 % of total soil can be used in agricultural purpose, which is higher than National average (94 %). Cotton, Wheat, Corn and Tobacco are the main crop product in the region. Nitrogen fertilizers (Ammonium sulfate, Ammonium Nitrate, Urea, and Calcium Nitrate) have been applied in agricultural field (about 100.000 tons/year).
Main purpose of this project is:

    1. To determine water and soil quality in Hatay Amik basin.
    2. To investigation effect of agricultural practice (Pesticide, Fertilizers, etc.) on water source and aquatic life in the region.
    3. To determine heavy metal accumulation in water, soil, aquatic plant and fish species.
