Sampling, preparation and treatment of sea samples : statistical approaches

Abstract
In the analytical pathway, from the elementary sampling to the analytical result, the sampling, the preparation of a laboratory sample and the treatment of the test sample represent two critical steps for any analytical method. We discussed the example of sea sediments.
Having performed a variance analysis, we demonstrate that the contribution of the analysis (treatment and instrumental mesure) represents a small part of the variance, the most important part coming from the heterogeneity of the analytes in the samples. Attention must be paid to the preparation of the laboratory sample.
