Abstract

Rates of Orobanche crenata infested capsules by Phytomyza orobanchia throughout 2002/03 faba bean season averaged 53.75 (3-97) % in different locations in Qalubiya govemorate and 60.67 (18-96) % in Menoufiya govemorate. Highest seasonal mean infestation % occurred in Tukh and Shebin El-Kom districts (70%) in Qalubiya, and El-Bagour district (83.5%) in Menoufiya. Releasing 502 fly adults in faba bean field infested by O. crenata at Giza caused considerable increases in percentages of capsules infested by P.orobanchia, being 3-5 times more than those in the control. All data confirmed the very important beneficial role of P. orobanchia against broom rape, and that this role, greatly, increased by releasing the fly adults.
