Abstract

Wheat stem sawfly (Cephus tabidus Fab.) is one of the main insect pests that affect both barley and wheat in northern Syria. Larvae feed on the contents of the host stems, resulting empty or small-seed spikes. Lodging of stems and a loss in yield cased by the larvae heading down in the stem where they hibernate. The natural enemies are important integrated pest management component used to control this insect. During the 2000-2002 periods, a survey was conducted to assess the level of infestation and the most effective parasitoid species that are dominant with this pest. Collyria coxator Villers (Hymenoptera: Ichneoumonidae), and Bracon terebella Wesmal (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), have been found in large and effective numbers. The level of parasitism varied according to the region, year, and from one location to another in the same field.
