The Efficacy OfEichhornia Crassipes (Mart.) Solms Extracts And Powder As Protecting Materral Against Certain Stored Product Insects

Abstract
Powder and acetone, methanol and petroleum ether crude extracts of Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms. (Pontederaceae) were evaluated for bioinsecticidal activity against Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), Sitophilus oryzae (L.), Collosobruchus maculats (F,) and Stegobium paniceum (Fab.) by three bioassay techniques. Petroleum ether extract was evaluated by thin film residue, mixing with media and dipping techniques against the tested adult species and larvae of
T. castaneum. Acetone and methanol extracts were mixed with media against
S. oryzae and C. maculatus. Plant powder was evaluated against C. maculatus and S. oryzae mixed in media. Ovipostion, adult emergence and sterility of S. oryzae and C. maculatus were determined. According to the tested parameters, results showed that all the tested extracts and the powder of E. crassipes have deterioration effect on the tested insects.
