Abstract

Date palm cultivation in Qatar is subject to attack by many fungal diseases and ýinsects such as Black Scorch (Thielaviopsis paradoxa); Graphiola leaf spot ýý(Graphiola phoenicis); Leaf spots (Alternaria sp. & Cladosporium ýsp.); Red Date Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus); Fruit stalk ýborer (Oryctes elegans) and Stem borer (Jebusaea ýhammershmidti). These pests significantly reduce date yield and quality in ýseveral farms. Five components of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) were used to ýreduce yield loss. These components were: 1) Using chemical pesticides, 2) ýAgricultural practices, 3) Plant quarantine regulations, 4) Biological control and 5) ýPheromone traps. Results revealed that the infestation level was highly reduced to ýbelow the economic threshold. Additionally, the effect of ecological and ýagricultural factors predisposing the palm trees to attack by those pests was also ýstudied.ý
