Efficacy Of The Most Widely Used Herbicides In Setif Region

Abstract
Field chemical control trials of durum wheat (Triticum durumDesf.)
weeds were conducted in the Sétif region (north-east of Algeria), with the most
widely used herbicides in Algeria. The most abundant weeds were Avena
sterilis L., Convolvulus arvensis L. andRanunculus arvensis L.
The herbicides applied at the late-tillering stage of wheat were bromoxynil +
diclofop-methyl, flamprop-isopropyl + MCPA, 2,4-D ester and diclofop-methyl,
compared to the untreated control. The two first herbicides increased grain
yield by more than 1200 kg ha-1 at a sub-humid site, and 400 kg ha-1 at a
semi-arid site. These results showed the importance of chemical weed control in
winter cereals.
