Occurrence Of Rice Kernel Smut Incited By Tilletia Barclayana In Dakahlia

Abstract
Rice kernel smut incited by Tilletia barclayana was registered in some rice fields in El-beda village, Temi El-Amdid district, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt, during the 1999 summer growing season on Giza 171 and Giza 178 rice cultivars. Rate of infection ranged from 2 to 7%, while the disease severity was high in Giza 171 and Giza 178 followed by Sakha 101, and Riho cultivar had the lowest rate of infection and disease severity. Total count of T. barclayana spores on one gram of rice seeds ranged from 4x105 to 15x105 spores/ gram seeds.
