Abstract
Ocneridia volxemi commonly called "Boukrouma" because of its
pronotum bent. This Pamphagidae is considered to be the grasshopper species
which cause the most damage to cereals in the area of Setif and other cereal
areas of Algeria. When it pullulates it causes important damage on the cereals.
To protect the cereal fields the governmental agencies concerned (National
Institute of Plant Protection) are obliged to spray thousands of hectares with
chemicals (Malathion). To better understand this species, a study was carried
out over six consecutive years (1994 to 1999) in various locations. It included
biological (life cycle) ecological (pollution factors) and behavioral (sexual
and dietary food) aspects, in addition to biological control (Beauveria
bassiana).
