Abstract
Prior to any dredging operation of Ain Sukhna Port in 1998, its benthic marine ecology was investigated versus the standing environmental conditions of salinity, oxygen concentration, chlorophyll a, nutrients (phosphate, nitrate, silicate), total suspended solids, concentration of heavy metals and hydrocarbons. The diversity of benthic biota was discussed in relation to the present and expected environmental status of the area. Such base-line data would be useful in the future monitoring of the site to evaluate undesirable impacts impose threaten to marine life in the future.
