Abstract

Two main natural zeolitic tuffs were used for the removal of po4 -3, and NH4+1from sewage effluent in Gordon through column and batch experiments with different treated types and non treated types . The highest efficiency column tests for removals were observed when using the were zeolitic tuffs (no treated) and, natreated, while removal was highest when using the non treated zeolitic tuffs and the Ca tread zeolitic tuffs. Consequently, the best results for po4 -3, and NH4+1 were noted by column tests when using the non treated (raw) zeolitic tuffs (bulk and reddish).
In the case of batch tests, the best obtained results for the removal of po4 -3and NH4+1 were observed when using bulk zeolitic tuff with fraction size of 0.106-0.25mm and with a shaking time of 3hours. These results were higher than that when using reddish tuff. Design charts and mathematical models were developed for all studies media. The charts can be use to design column and batch systems for various pollutants loads and specified removal efficiency.
