Abstract

A research work was performed for the waste stabilization ponds system existing in Salamieh, Hama Region, which was counted a unique natural treatment plant in the Syrian cities, covering the physical, chemical and microbiological aspects during the period(February 1996- March 1998) .
The research work, applied the system of recirculation the treated wastewater from and to the oxidation ponds even in a law percentage that does not exceed 20% has improved clearly the plant efficiency since the removal percentafe rose from 55% (before recirculation) to 67% (after the recirculation) in respect of BOD5 and the efficiency of maturation pilot pond as well.
The results of recirculation showed the necessity for increasing the recirculation ratio by not less than 100% in order to guarantee optimal enhancement of plant efficiency for all pollution parameters.

Keywords: Chemical performance, microbiological performance, oxidation ponds, effluent upgradng, recirculation, unrestricted irrigation.
