Developed Design Charts For Storm Water
Detention Basins/ Ponds

Abstract
The paper handles the application of storm- water detention basins or ponds in sewer networks in and out of towns for the protection of these cities or parts from floods, and for the purpose of protecting the water resources from the pollutants running off with rainwater.
The research involves an analysis of (1966- 1997) years rainfall precipitation data available for the coastal Lattakia city.
A comprehensive mathematical design model is developed based on the analysis.
Moreover, rainfall design models are selected, based on categorizing the rainfall precipitation into three categories(T1,T2,T3) for different values of frequency (n).
The research concluded with setting the runoff coefficients charts and design charts for storm-water detention basins or man-made lakes.
These charts can be applied to different climatic regions because they represent different rainfall.
Furthermore the charts have been compared with the traditional methods applied in design of the storm- water detention basins in Germany.
