Prediction of Sediment Transport in Jordanian Desert Reservoirs.

Abstract
Loss of reservoirs storagecapacity is a result of deposition.The complexity of the Sedimentation process in reservoirs is the primary reason for the inadequacy of the knowledge about reservoir sedimentation.
In this paper, Sediment transport is predicted five Jordanian desert reservoirs using the method of comparative watersheds and several empirical formulas.
The results of predicted sedimentation for the Jordanian desert reservoirs are correlated with the watershed area of these reservoirs and compared to those for reservoirs in the Jordan Valley. Sediment transport for reservoirs in the Jordan desert are found to be about 1/3 to 1/7.5 of that in the Jordan Valley depending on the size of the catchment area.
Finally, some sedimentation control methods in reservoirs are presented.
