  • IPGRI Career Overview :
I was recruited by IPGRI as Public Affairs Officer in 2000. My duties include developing, guiding, and implementing public awareness activities for the institute. I work with IPGRI/ICARDA/National Programs staff to promote the importance of plant genetic resources activities among key target audiences in partner countries. I develop and supervise the preparation of public awareness materials, such as posters, brochures, displays, fact sheets, audio-visual training materials, agricultural theatre. This involves providing guidance on the layout and design of all regional publications under my supervision. I am responsible for guiding and coordinating the public awareness activities of the UNDP-GEF Agrobiodiversity Project (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan & Palestinian Authority) and GEF Date Palm Project in North Africa. I provide public awareness support to the CWANA Office, including but not limited to the area of donor and host country relations. I am currently involved in managing the process to launch an innovation fund (Eco-Tourism). Also I work with some IPGRI Global projects (C06, C14 and C15).
  • I consider my most significant programme contributions to IPGRI to be in the following areas:
    1. The development and implementation of IPGRI's Public Awareness Strategy and Programme, which targets policymakers, donors and the media.
    2. The promotion of public awareness as an important development tool.
    3. The production of recurring IPGRI publications, e.g. Geneflow, Annual Reports, calendar, poster series.
    4. The development of CWANA web site.
    5. The encouragement of institute-wide attention to gender issues.
    6. The leadership of a large number of National Programs public awareness activities.
    7. The development of television documentary film series on plant genetic resources.
    8. The successful launch of a process to raise significant funds for genetic resources conservation and the development of a regional genetic resources conservation system.
