Effect of Milbeknock on Certain Rodents under Laboratory Conditions

Abstract
The obtained data proved that the values of LDs of Rattus norvegicus were higher ten folds than that of M. musculus approximately. This means that M. musculus is more sensitive to Milbeknock than R. norvegicus. The results proved that the palatability of the tested individuals of Rattus norvegicus to Milbeknock (Milbeknock 1% EC) has a positive link with the LDs values. The mortality had a positive correlation with LDs values. Also the obtained data cleared that the whole wheat seeds which coated with; LD30, LD50 and LD90 of the tested material gave respectively, 40, 60 and 80 kill percentages for the tested Norway rats R. norvegicus under free feeding system. Meanwhile, the mortality under the obliged feeding method was 50%, 60% and 80% for LD30, LD50 and LD90 successively. The treated bait with LD30 caused a slightly increasing in body weight. On the contrary side the body weight of the rat had a bit little reduction when subjected to either LD50 or LD90 values for both tested feeding systems. The data proved that there is a negative correlation between time to death and the applied LD values. The average of treated bait consumption per day for one individual of the tested animals was (2.7, 2.3 and 2.2 g/day) for non-choice feeding test. Meanwhile, it was (1.7, 2.1 and 2.1 g/day) for choice feeding test for the LD30, LD50 and LD90 respectively. The acceptance percentage of M. musculus was less than 50%. The palatability, has a positive relationship with each of the used LD values and kill percentages. The body weight of the house mouse have increasing because of applying the Milbeknock under choice and non-choice feeding system especially in case of LD30 (0.6 g and 1.5 g) successively. In addition, the time to death was 7 days, 6.5 days and 5.5 days for LD30, LD50 and LD90 for choice test and 5.5 days, 4.7 days and 3.7 days for LD30, LD50 and LD90 for non- choice test. |
