Survey of Rodent Predators at Shark El Ewainate District El Wadi El Gadied Governorate

Abstract

Survey was carried out in Shark El ewinate district, El Wadi El Gadied Governorate for 2000 and 2001 (one year). All sites were investigated to determine the different species of the distributed predators. The observations were recorded daily from 6.0 am till 8.0 p.m for one week per month. The researchers run a questionnaire to collect more information about the rodent predators. Three kinds of predators were recorded. The first one of them was belonging to class Avian. The resident species of the present birds all around year in the investigated area were Raven (Carvus ruficollis), Egret (Ardeolai ibis), White owl (Anthena noeuaglauy) and Red kite (Milvus milvus). Meanwhile, the visitor birds in autumn and spring were European crane, (Megalorris grus grus), White stork (Ciconia ciconia) and the winter visitor was the lanner falcon (Falco taryoterus). The second kind was the reptiles which were grey montor (Varanius griseus), greater cerastes (Cerastes cerastes), molia snake (Malpolon cerastes) and sand snake (Psammphis schokori aegyptuis). The third kind was the wild animals. Only three species were recorded in the investigated area, wild cat (Felis sylvestries), sand fox (Vulpes rueplli) and arab wolf (Canis lupus).
