Abstract

Susceptibility levels to warfarin anticoagulant were studied in different strains of black rat, Rattus rattus and Norway rat Rattus norvegicus trapped from 6 Governorates in which the anticoagulant rodenticides had been used to control rodents for long periods in comparison with those trapped from free of rodenticides , untreated area, of Abu-Rawash. The lethal feeding periods (LFP50&99) recommended by WHO and a biochemical technique (prothrombin time determination PT) were used. The results revealed that animals of R. rattus and R. norvegicus trapped from Monofia, Giza and Sharkia Governorates that exposed to massive use of anticoagulant rodenticides showed a noticeable tolerance level to warfarin as LFP50 and LFP99 values were higher than in animals trapped from Kafr El- Sheikh, Gharbia, and Qaliobia Governorates in comparison with control animals of Abu-Rawash area. The biochemical tests findings confirmed the results of the biological methods.
